Aybey AE-LIFT STO Contactorless VVVF Elevator Drive

AE-LIFT STO is a contactorless VVVF drive for lift machines. A DSP main controller runs space-vector control, and the motor contactors that normally sit between the drive and the traction machine are replaced by a Safe Torque Off circuit.

What contactorless (STO) changes in a machine room

Safe Torque Off stops the drive producing torque without breaking the motor circuit through a mechanical contactor. Two things follow. The metallic clack at every start and stop disappears, which matters most in machine-roomless shafts where the machine sits directly above occupied floors. And two contactors leave the bill of materials, taking their contact wear and their fault rate with them.

Selection range

The 3 to 30 kW band covers a small residential machine at the bottom end and a heavy hospital or goods lift at the top. The drive works with both synchronous (gearless) and asynchronous machines, in open-loop and closed-loop applications, and reads SSI, EnDat, SinCos, BISS and incremental encoders. Rescue operation runs from a UPS or a battery pack. The brake coil and the contactors are driven directly by the device.

Installation detail worth knowing

All terminals are pluggable and sit outside the enclosure. The box does not have to be opened for any connection, which shortens commissioning and keeps the warranty seal intact. Terminal functions for lift operation are predefined rather than freely assigned, so a standard installation needs fewer parameters before the first test run.
