Final Limit Switch

Elevator Glossary

The final limit switch is a safety switch placed just beyond the top and bottom terminal landings that removes power from the machine and brake if the car travels past its normal limit of travel. It operates only after the normal stopping and slowdown devices have failed, and is wired directly into the safety circuit so the lift cannot restart automatically. EN 81-20 requires it to act as close as possible to the terminal landings without being operated during normal running, and to be positively opened.
