EN 81-20 Standard

Elevator Glossary

EN 81-20 is the primary European harmonised safety standard for the construction and installation of passenger and goods passenger elevators. It replaced the previous EN 81-1 (electric) and EN 81-2 (hydraulic) standards and has been mandatory for new elevator installations in the EU since 2017. EN 81-20 covers safety requirements for the design, manufacture, installation, and testing of traction and hydraulic elevators, including shaft dimensions, machine space, safety devices, electrical equipment, and load tests.
