Guide Rail Bracket

Elevator Glossary

A guide rail bracket is the steel fixing that ties the guide rails to the shaft wall and transfers guiding and safety gear forces into the building structure. Bracket spacing is typically 1.5 to 2.5 metres and is determined by the rail section, the rated load and the forces generated when the safety gear grips. Brackets must allow vertical movement so that building settlement and concrete shrinkage do not bend the rails. In steel or glass shafts the brackets fix to a supporting steel frame instead of masonry.
