Roller Guide

Elevator Glossary

A roller guide is a guiding assembly with three spring-loaded rollers that run on the machined faces of the guide rail, replacing sliding guide shoes on higher-speed installations. Because the rollers turn rather than slide, friction, noise and rail wear are lower, and ride quality is noticeably smoother. Roller guides are normally specified above about 1.0 m/s and are standard on gearless and high-rise systems. Spring pressure is adjusted during commissioning to balance stability against transmitted vibration.
