Type examination is the conformity assessment in which a notified body verifies that a representative sample of a safety component meets the requirements of the EU Lifts Directive 2014/33/EU. Safety gears, overspeed governors, landing door locks, buffers, ascending car overspeed protection and UCM devices must all hold a valid EU type-examination certificate before they may be placed on the market. The certificate number is marked on the component itself, and the installer must keep copies in the lift technical file.
