1:1 roping (one-to-one roping) is the standard suspension arrangement for traction elevators in which the hoisting ropes run directly from the car, over the drive sheave, and down to the counterweight without any intermediate pulleys. In this configuration, the rope speed equals the car speed, and the full rated load must be balanced by the drive sheave traction. 1:1 roping is used for the majority of passenger elevator installations and provides efficient, direct power transmission.
