Destination control, also called destination dispatch, is a system in which passengers enter their target floor at a terminal in the lobby before boarding, and the system tells them which car to take. Because passengers travelling to the same floor are grouped into the same car, the number of intermediate stops falls sharply and handling capacity rises by roughly 25 to 30 percent. Car operating panels carry no floor buttons in a pure destination system, only door and alarm controls.
