The elevator cabin, also called the car, is the enclosure in which passengers or goods are transported between floors. It consists of the car frame (sling), floor panel, wall panels, ceiling, lighting, handrails, and the car operating panel (COP). Cabins are available in standard and custom sizes, and interior finishes range from stainless steel and painted panels to glass and decorative materials. The cabin must be engineered to withstand the rated load, dynamic forces during travel, and safety gear actuation forces.
