A load weighing device is a sensor system — typically a strain gauge, load cell, or pressure sensor — installed in the elevator to measure the load in the car and transmit this information to the controller. It serves several functions: preventing the car from operating when overloaded (overload signal), enabling the controller to optimise starting torque for smooth departure, and in some systems, determining whether the car is empty (to bypass intermediate calls when appropriate). Accurate load measurement is essential for smooth starts and energy efficiency.
