A platform lift is a lifting device designed to transport wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility between levels where a full elevator is not feasible due to space or structural constraints. Platform lifts typically travel short vertical distances (up to 3 metres for inclined or vertical types, longer for some models), have lower load capacities than elevators, and do not require a full enclosed shaft. They are governed by EN 81-41 and EN 81-40 standards and are commonly installed in heritage buildings, retail spaces, and private residences.
