A wheelchair lift, also called an accessibility lift or disabled platform lift, is a short-travel vertical or inclined lifting device designed specifically to transport wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility between levels. Vertical wheelchair lifts typically travel up to 3 metres, while stairlift-style inclined versions travel along a staircase. They are governed by EN 81-40 (inclined) and EN 81-41 (vertical) standards. Wheelchair lifts are commonly installed in public buildings, schools, transport hubs, and private residences as an alternative to ramps.
