Elevator Glossary

A hospital elevator, also known as a bed elevator or stretcher elevator, is a specialised passenger elevator designed to transport patients on hospital beds, stretchers, or wheelchairs between floors in medical facilities. Hospital elevators have oversized cabin dimensions (typically minimum 1400 × 2100 mm clear floor area) to accommodate beds and accompanying medical staff, heavy-duty door systems (minimum 1100 mm clear width), anti-bacterial interior surfaces, and emergency power operation. They comply with EN 81-20 and hospital-specific requirements.
