Firefighters Operation

Elevator Glossary

Firefighters operation (also called Fireman Service or Fire Recall) is a mandatory special operating mode in elevators that allows firefighters to take control of the elevator during a fire emergency. When activated — either by a key switch at the main landing or automatically by a fire alarm signal — the elevator returns to the designated recall floor (ground floor), opens its doors, and remains under the control of firefighters who can use it to transport equipment and personnel. This function is required by EN 81-73 and local fire safety regulations.
